The Old Circus Jazz Band was born in Rome during April of 1998 in cooperation with “Teatro Oltre”, inside the show “Orpheus” by Jean Cocteau. The musicians are always philosophically careful to reproduce the typical effects and sounds of the jazz orchestras of the 20’s. This effort rewards audiences by faithfully recreating the musical atmosphere found in ballrooms during the American prohibition era.

Careful musical research made the inclusion of genuine vintage instruments an essential element, allowing listeners to enjoy the originality of this band that plays music of both “white” and “black” musicians. Actually, it is the only group in Italy that plays songs from “The Cotton Club”, as shown in Francis Ford Coppola’s movie of the same name that presented a very young Duke Ellington at the beginning of his career.

The band plays at various locations in Italy, including Jazz Clubs of Rome and festivals like the earlier “Roman Classic Jazz Festival 2006” organised by Lino Patruno at the “Casa del Jazz” in Rome.http://www.teatrooltre.itshapeimage_1_link_0
